Bruce Rastetter's combined experience in agriculture, renewable energy, and business development has fueled his success in building companies and engagement on public policy.
Growing up on a 300-acre family farm near Alden, Iowa, Rastetter started his career with his own feed management business. He managed additional start-up companies that merged into Heartland Pork, a Midwestern pork production company acquired by Christensen Farms that has since become one of the largest pork producers in America. He later founded Hawkeye Renewables, which became one of the country’s largest pure-play corn-based ethanol producers. Expanding beyond the United States, Mr. Rastetter founded FS Bioenergia, a leading Brazilian low-carbon biofuels and energy platform with three production facilities producing over 600 million gallons per year.
More recently, Mr. Rastetter has spearheaded the development of Summit Carbon Solutions - a company that is set to build the world’s largest carbon capture pipeline that will decarbonize nearly half of the nations’ ethanol production enabling new markets and benefits for agriculture. He is also the co-founder of Amber Wave, North America’s largest wheat protein plant producing essential food ingredients and biofuels. Continuing his engagement in low-carbon business opportunities, Mr. Rastetter is leading the development of Summit Next Gen, a Gulf Coast-based company using Honeywell technology to produce 250 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel annually from low-carbon ethanol.
Today, Summit Agricultural Group is an agriculture and renewable energy business with holdings across North and South America. The company supports capital investments with strategic partnerships and manages agricultural assets, including farmland, beef, pork and grain production facilities. Rastetter is an active philanthropist and has served as an advisor and member of several boards, including the American Agriculture and Energy Council, American Carbon Alliance, Cultivation Corridor, Growth Energy, Iowa Premium Beef, FS Bioenergia, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture and Rural American Fund. He previously served as president of the Iowa Board of Regents, working on initiatives across the Regents system, which consists of more than 27,000 employees, 80,000 students and an annual budget of $5.6 billion. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Rastetter holds a bachelor’s degree in political science.
